I’m not really familiar with why that particular conference would leave them feeling more threatened. I didn’t watch any of them.
If the creator of the image wasn’t saying the “don’t” should be crossed off, is wrong, etc due to the existence of all of those female characters, then I’d admit that I had inferred something from the image that was not actually there.
I wasn’t playing devil’s advocate. I voiced my opinion about something that seemed, to me, to be a bad argument.
Do I have a problem with women being in video games? Not at all. In fact, I’d like to see more women main characters in mainstream games.
My problem is that you don’t seem to be intelligent enough to read into a fucking joke.
An atheist isn’t someone who says “there is no God”. An atheist is simply someone who lacks a belief in God and has read at least five books by Bertrand Russell.
Definition of BELIEF“I don’t believe in evolution, I accept that it is true.”
“I don’t believe in evolution, I understand why evolution is true.”
New atheists don’t understand what a belief is.belief: accepting that something is true with little to no empirical evidence
…
1 : a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing
2 : something believed; especially : a tenet or body of tenets held by a group
3 : conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence
You know, half of the reason people always misunderstand each other is because we fail to define definitions. A lot of miscommunication and confusion comes about when two people are thinking of the same term but with different meanings in mind.
However, the majority of scientists and people who understand Evolution by Natural Selection believe in it based on definition 1 or 3, respectably. This strongly held conviction is only so with the evidence provided; it goes without faith or stretching reality. If evidence comes a long to disprove evolution, it is no longer believed. Yes, they can also “know” evolution is true, but “belief” is appropriate as well.
Now, you should damn well know when someone uses the street term “belief” to say “I believe in evolution” or “I don’t believe in gods” it’s based on the evidence, not a strong conviction without evidence unlike religious claims. What is the definition of atheism? “The lack of belief in gods”. Secondly, saying ” I don’t believe in gods” is more honest than saying “I know there are no gods” because we cannot disprove a claim that is unidentified/untestable. We can say “I know there is no Judeo-Christian god” because we can easily identity his traits and find them contradictory and untenable to reality.
So why the hell are you throwing this big fuss up about the word “belief”, a word which has many definitions, that I’m sure you have the mental capacity to know which context it is being used by? We have bigger things to worry about.
