Goebel Gone Global

You know what else is the result of 4 billion years of evolutionary success? Every organism currently living on Earth.
To suggest that this has some sort of normative prescription value that isn’t based on survival is simply to throw logic out the window.

But an organism from 4 billion years ago could not survive in today’s ecosystem.  All current species are evolutionary success because they have learned to adapt to modern conditions.  When someone acts like a neanderthal instead of a fully evolved human, I’d rather be with a fully evolved lab rat.

This isn’t me saying suggesting that I enjoy when people act in ignorant ways (those who act in a way that this is addressed towards, I assume) or that I’d want to be around said people. What I’m suggesting is that this particular argument against acting in a specific way fails. Based on the wide variety of behavior that currently exists among organisms, it does not make sense to suggest that it can provide a normative ethical standard based on anything but acts such as living, allowing one’s form to use whatever it needs to survive, and reproducing. Aside from that, it can be suggested that a behavior that this is criticizing is a result of evolution if it shows up consistently enough.
